Lately our cable modamn has been flakier than a bowl of Raisin Bran. A technician is allegedly on his way this morning to come fix it, but we're working on a fix on the back end - dropping cable. No more DVR, no more Iron Chef (the superlative Japanese one, not the horrible duhmerican version). I can't wait. We've run the numbers and we stand to cut our total home entertainment & communication (interweb, phone, TV, etc) bill roughly in half. The cable modamn, of course, being our main link to the outside world what with the interweb and our VOIP service running through it, well, when it goes down, we're boned.|
What really started this tail spin into expensive stuff was our original DSL service we were using right after we bought our house. We had a pretty good intro rate for the first year, but to keep it longer we had to add phone services. AT&T i mean IL Bell i mean Ameritech i mean SBC i mean AT&T royally screwed the pooch on that try, so we dumped them on their headpiece for Comcrap & VOIP thru packet8. Comcrap's rates went through the roof after the first 6 months promo rate, so we used the other local provider, Wide Open West. Note: read the reviews of any service on dslreports.com in your area before attempting to use VOIP. Initially the phone worked great for me, and I still really enjoy it, but our connection is too temperamental to use it reliably. Not to mention that we can beat packet8's rates with the el cheapo local service and an el cheapo long distance provider.
I'm also eventually moving sammich.org & boozecouncil.org to a hosting provider and kntlc.com over to this one. Charlie & Dayton are in on the deal, so it's gonna be hell of cheap.
I made a bunch of inverted US flags and Gadsden flags.
I'm currently folding for team 2321, the The Fantastic Foldmagorium And Great American Steakery. I've got four machines crunching on it right now. I may try to enlist coworkers.
